Automated Valves Increase Ships Cargo Capacity & Profits

The Challenge:

In today’s ever-increasing climate of competition, Great Lakes ship owners – including those of the famous lake freighter MV Roger Blough – needed to  find ways to improve efficiency and profitability. Ballast water is used in a bulk carrier for stability and efficiency of movement when the vessel is not loaded with cargo.

The Solution:

R.M. Headlee’s team stewarded the installation of (20) 10” Val-Matic butterfly valves and AT Controls/Triac electric proportional actuators in the 858’, 43,900 ton capacity Roger Blough, provided for more complete ballast water removal allowing for more cargo to be hauled on each trip.

The Result:

The additional cargo increases the over-all efficiency of the vessel and improves the owner’s “bottom line”.
